5 Fun Things to Do in Punta Gorda After Your Biplane Ride

Hi! We’re Gareth and Joy Williams, and as you can imagine, we spend plenty of time aboard Gracie, our beautiful WACO biplane. As Punta Gorda residents, we’d like to share some of our favorite places to go when we’re not in the air.

You’ve soared above Charlotte Harbor and traced the curves of Southwest Florida’s sun-drenched beaches in Gracie, with the wind in your face, and sweeping views that leave you exhilarated - but what next? The adventure needn’t end when you land—Punta Gorda is bursting with experiences to make your day (or weekend) unforgettable. Here are five fun things to do after your biplane ride.

1. Set Sail with King Fisher Fleet

For a completely different perspective of Charlotte Harbor, step aboard a King Fisher Fleet cruise. Whether you choose a casual sightseeing tour, a romantic sunset sail, or a day trip to the barrier islands, you’ll enjoy a smooth ride across sparkling waters. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, manatees, and seabirds—you might even recognize the same coastline you admired from above. The pictures below were all taken on a family trip to Cabbage Key earlier this year, which included some great views of the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse from Boca Grande Pass.

If you love island-hopping, their excursions to Boca Grande and Cayo Costa are especially popular. Pack your camera, because these barrier islands are known for seashells, sandy beaches, and incredible sunsets that light up the Gulf like a watercolor painting.

2. Explore the Wild with Peace River Charters

Trade your wings for an airboat with Peace River Charters, where adventure takes you deep into Florida’s wild backcountry. Skimming across the water and marshes, you’ll encounter alligators, turtles, and a variety of native birds in their natural habitat. It’s a thrilling way to see a side of Florida most visitors never experience. We enjoyed it so much we went back twice - so much fun for little kids…and for the not-so-little ones!

Looking for something beyond the airboat? Peace River also offers swamp buggy rides, giving you a bird’s-eye view of the wetlands, or horseback tours through scenic trails. Each adventure reveals a different angle of Florida’s rugged beauty, making it a perfect complement to the high-flying freedom of your biplane ride

3. Get Adventurous with Punta Gorda Adventures

Punta Gorda Adventures is the go-to hub for water-based fun. They run kayak eco-tours where you get up close and personal with Florida’s wildlife!  Glide down the scenic Peace River for an immersive adventure!  Experience wildlife like never before!  You might even see manatees or dolphins!

And don’t miss the ‘Oasis’ tiki boat for some unparalleled harbor views. Grab some friends and climb aboard.

4. Dine at Punta Gorda’s Local Favorites

Flying and exploring are guaranteed to build up an appetite, and Punta Gorda’s food scene delivers plenty of flavor. Here are three local favorites worth adding to your itinerary:

This upscale coastal tavern is as charming as it is delicious. Known for its warm atmosphere and quality cuisine, it’s a great place to linger over appetizers or cocktails. If you go, don’t miss the Rockefeller Oysters—they’re some of the best you’ll ever taste.

A cozy spot where homemade pastas, wood-fired pizzas, and heartfelt hospitality set the tone. The Shrimp & Scallops Limoncello dish is unforgettable and Joy’s favorite. Carmelo’s has become our favorite place to celebrate our anniversary and birthdays.

For something more casual, head to this authentic Irish pub. From fish & chips to shepherd’s pie, paired with a pint of Guinness or a rotating selection of imported beers, it’s comfort food with a Celtic twist. And if you’re a Brit (which Gareth is!), you’ll love the pasties and sausage rolls on the menu.

Whether you’re in the mood for refined dining or a laid-back pub vibe, Punta Gorda’s restaurants offer the perfect ending—or intermission—for your adventure.

5. Cruise the Harbor with Florida Sailboat Charters

For a more intimate and romantic way to experience Charlotte Harbor, step aboard a Florida Sailboat Charters charter. Unlike larger boats, trips aboard ‘Courageous’ are small-group and personalized, giving you the feel of a private excursion. With the sails unfurled and the breeze guiding you, you’ll once again feel the wind in your hair—but this time from the water. Captain Curtis is the consummate host and makes everyone feel special.

Sunset sails are especially popular, painting the sky with shades of orange and pink while the water shimmers below. It’s a peaceful yet exhilarating contrast to the thrill of flying, and many guests say it feels like the perfect full-circle moment: first the sky, then the sea. Oh…and Courageous and Gracie love playing together!
